Badging for Micro Credentials Embedded in a Parent Course
This document is meant to provide resources for the options available in attaching a micro credential to a course. There are 3 options to choose from, depending on the intended setup of the course.
Option 01 – Manually Awarded
In this option, the badging process is not attached to the gradebook. Once the Teaching and Learning Commons adds the Micro Credential badge to the course and sets up the necessary permissions, the instructor will be able to award the badge manually to their students. These permissions will only allow an instructor to award a badge to a student manually and will restrict the creation of any new badges. The award of the micro credential will not be linked to the gradebook.

Option 02 – Setting up Badging with Different Grading System between the Parent and the Embedded MicroCrediantial (MAS/NCG)
When the parent course and micro credential uses different grading systems (Letter grades in parent course and MAS/NCG in the micro credential), this option allows the instructor to set up the gradebook in a such way to trigger the badge for the micro credential by selecting MAS/NCG in the gradebook without any impact to the grading system of the parent course. In this option, the instructor will not be able to use the features of the gradebook (such as rubrics, quizzes) to trigger the badge for the micro credential. The grade is awarded by the instructor selecting MAS or NCG through a drop-down menu in a separate part of the gradebook outside the parent courses grading weights. When the instructor awards the student with an X number of assignments with a MAS grades, the badge will be triggered.
After the instructor follows the instructions posted to set up their course, they are required to submit a ticket through IT/TL Service Portal with their micro credential completion details for the TL Commons to attach the micro credential to the course.

Option 03 – Setting up Badging with the Same Grading System between the Parent and the Embedded MicroCrediantial
When the parent course and micro credential uses the same grading system (Letter grades, MAS/NCG), this option allows the instructor to set up the gradebook that will allow the triggering of the micro credential badge automatically when students complete a certain number of assignments with an assigned grading % as determined by the instructor.
After the instructor follows the instructions posted to set up their course, they are required to submit a ticket through IT/TL Service Portal with their micro credential completion details for the TL Commons to attach the micro credential to the course.
