This guide is intended for users who are wanting to use a word document for a quiz in Moodle. If you are wanting to get access to Respondus please contact the IT Service Desk for assistance IT/TL Portal. For more information on Respondus please click here.


Uploading a Word Document with Respondus


  • With Respondus open change the current personality to Blackboard.



  • Select Import Questions.



  • Select the correct Word file type, typically, Microsoft Word 2007 (DOCX) works fine.
  • Click Browse and choose the file you want to convert.
  • Add a Document Name for the test.
  • Click Preview to see the results in the Preview Results window and select Finish.



Editing the Quiz 


Edit the quiz to ensure that all the details match with the original document.


  • From the Edit page click the Arrow on the left side of the question in the Question List section and click Edit.



  • Your question will appear in the top section of the Edit page
  • Make sure that the Title and Answers are all correctly formatted.
  • Select the Correct Answer.
  • Click the Preview button to check the question.
  • Select Save Changes.



Exporting your Quiz

  • Having completed the edits on your quiz, select the Preview + Publish tab.



  • Click Publish on the left side of your screen.
  • Select the Publish Wizard.



  • Choose the Save pool to local file for manual uploading option.
  • Select Next to continue.



  • Select Save As.
  • Depending on if this is for points or not select either option in section 2.
  • Click the Finish button. Please note that it will save a Zip File on your computer. You do not need to do anything to this file at this point.



Importing to Moodle


  • Click the Cog icon near the top-right corner. Now click More from the dropdown menu



  • Find the Question bank category and select Import.



  • In the File format section select Blackboard.



  • Click Choose a file and upload the Zip File that was created and click Import.
