Accessibility checker

An automated accessibility checker, which checks for text and formatting problems, is one of the tools provided in the Atto editor. The accessibility checker ensures that: ("Text editor - MoodleDocs," n.d.) :

  1. Images have insufficient alt text (Refer to this article for: Adding Alt Text to Images)
  2. The contrast between the text color and the backdrop color is within the WCAG AA requirements.
  3. Long blocks of text are adequately divided by headings.
  4. Captions are used on all tables.
  5. Merged cells in tables are avoided since they are difficult to navigate with screen readers.
  6. Row or column headings are present in all tables.


Using the Accessibility checker feature

1. Navigate to the Moodle activity for which you want to use the Accessibility checker


2. Go to the Atto editor, click the Expand button, and then select Accessibility checker


Screen reader helper

Text boxes and other content editable sections can contain photos, links, and other features in addition to text. The screen reader assistant checks to ensure all of these elements will be readable to a screen reader. The assistant displays additional information about the currently selected text as well as a list of any images or links in the text.


Using Screen reader helper Feature

1. Navigate to the Moodle activity for which you want to use the Screen reader helper


2. Go to the Atto editor, click the Expand button, and then select Screen reader helper
