The primary goal of alt text is to promote accessibility by communicating what an image is showing to students who are unable to view it and rely on text-to-speech or screen reader software, which is designed to recognize alternative text and read it to the student. The alt text is not displayed when browsing a Moodle course.


1. Go to the Moodle activity where you wish to add Alt text to an image


2. Navigate to the Atto editor and select the image icon



3. In the pop-up window, select the image to be added


4. Provide an accurate description in the text box that says Describe this image for someone who cannot see it with Alt text



5. Click on Save Image
