This guide will provide instructions for exporting student email addresses from Moodle. This is useful for creating a distribution list on Outlook for your class in order to send emails to everyone.

First, you'll need to export a list of your students that includes their email addresses.

1. Start by clicking the "Grades" button in the navigation menu on the left side of your Moodle course.

(Note: If you do not see the navigation menu, you can toggle it on by clicking the "burger" icon to the left of the KPU logo in the top left corner of the page.)

2. Click Export tab then click Excel spreadsheet tab. You will see a list of every activity in your Moodle course. Scroll to the bottom of this list and click the "Select all/none" button to uncheck every activity at once.

3. Once every activity is unchecked, click the "Download" button at the bottom of the page to download an excel spreadsheet of your student list.

A copy of your class list will be downloaded to the default download location on your device. Locate and open this excel spreadsheet.

(Note: Before you can copy or make any changes, you may need to click the "Enable Editing" button at the top of the spreadsheet.)

4. Highlight the column containing the email addresses of all your students and copy it, then paste the contents into a word document to save them.  Alternatively, you can keep the student list from the excel sheet instead.

5. When you need to send an email to your students, copy their email addresses from the spreadsheet, or the word document if you have saved it there, and open a new email.

6. Click "Options" at the top of the email window, then click the "BCC" button. This will open a BCC address bar that will prevent students from seeing who else the email was sent to.

7. Paste the student email addresses into the "BCC" box, and ensure each one is separated by a semicolon or space.

8. Type in the contents of your email, and send it when finished.

If you would like to create a distribution list for your class instead of pasting their individual email addresses, please take a look at Part 2 in our guide for communicating with students via Outlook, Create a Distribution List/ Contact Group in Outlook.
