By default, Moodle would hide the course total if that's the case the students are unable to see the course grade total, it could be that one of your grade items: assignments, quizzes, etc. is hidden from students.
To make the course grade total visible to students here are the steps:
Show the hidden items to students from Gradebook setup:
1. Go to the Gradebook setup page and locate the "Assignment" activity. A greyed-out Max grade indicates that it is currently hidden.
2. Click the Edit drop-down menu next to the "Assignment" activity and select Show to unhide the grade item.
3. Since this was the only hidden item, students will now be able to view their Course total.
Keep some grade items hidden from students:
If you want to keep certain grade items hidden from students but would like them to see their course total, you can change the gradebook preferences:
1. On the course main page, click Grades underneath the hamburger icon.
2. Click the drop-down list and select course grade settings.
3. Scroll down to User report and change "Hide totals if they contain hidden items" to "Show totals excluding hidden items". Click Save changes.
4. Students would be able to see the course total despite some activities being hidden.
