You can customize the user report for students and choose how they would see their grades in their gradebook.
1. Open your course main page and click Grades on the left side bar.
2. Click the drop-down list and select course grade settings.
3. Scroll down to the User report section. Here you'd see various options to select from. For example, you can choose whether to show/hide the feedback, contribution to course total columns, etc. in the user report.
Note: If your gradebook contains hidden items, it's important to change the "Hide totals if they contain hidden items" option from Default (Hide) to Show totals excluding hidden items (if you don't want students to see hidden items in their gradebook) OR Show totals including hidden items. Otherwise, Moodle will not display the course total by default due to some items being hidden in your gradebook setup. And you can show or hide hidden items from the user report.
