The Teaching and Learning Commons is seeking expressions of interest from dynamic KPU educators interested in joining the Teaching and Learning Commons Team as an Educational Consultant. 


Seconded from their respective faculty appointment through a partial time release, the role of Educational Consultant is intended to serve the Teaching and Learning Commons Team in our efforts to support the further development of teaching expertise of KPU educators and the activities and efforts of the Teaching and Learning Commons. As an Educational Consultant, you will offer evidence-based and complementary expertise to your colleagues and serve as a steward and broker for the community “network” and “knowledge base” around teaching and learning at KPU. Working in the highly collaborative environment of the Commons, your work may include developing resources, facilitating/co-facilitating workshops, providing input as requested on elements of the Teaching and Learning Commons’ strategy, helping to adjudicate applications for the Teaching & Learning Innovation Fund, and attending regular meetings of the Educational Consultants group and the Teaching and Learning Commons team. This appointment provides an exciting leadership opportunity for KPU faculty members to support the development of the teaching expertise of their colleagues. Current portfolio opportunities include: Indigenization, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, Science and Horticulture and Trades and Technology.

There are currently four appointments available: 


Indigenization 
Time release: 50% 
Term: 1 year 
This portfolio aims to support the further development of KPU educators in acquiring competencies related to designing learning experiences and environments that support Indigenization and decolonization of the curriculum. The successful candidate will have rich knowledge of Indigenous pedagogies and significant experience with the application of Indigenous ways of knowing and learning and/or ethical engagement and collaboration with Indigenous communities, organizations and/or institutions. Included in this appointment will be a requirement to provide consultation to colleagues, facilitate workshops and/or communities of practice, review research for evidence-based practices, and develop resources (infographics, webinars, handouts etc.) and training for educators. 


Note: Preference will be given to candidates with strong personal and/or professional connections with Indigenous communities. 


Scholarship of Teaching and Learning  

Time release: 50% 
Term: 1 year 
This portfolio aims to support the further development of educators interested in engaging in the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). The successful candidate will have significant experience with designing, conducting, and publishing research on teaching and learning, deep knowledge of each phase of the research life cycle, strong understanding of mixed-methods approaches, and experience as a research mentor. Included in this appointment will be a requirement to provide consultation to colleagues, facilitate workshops and/or communities of practice, review research for evidence-based practices, and develop resources (infographics, webinars, handouts etc.) and training for educators. 


Science and Horticulture 
Time release: 25% 
Term: 1 year 
This portfolio aims to support the further development of KPU educators in acquiring competencies related to teaching practices, techniques, and strategies specific to Science and Horticulture programs. The successful candidate will be supported to develop their own knowledge related to technology, blended, and online learning, and to identify needed supports and resources related to these specific disciplinary foci. Included in this appointment will be a requirement to provide consultation to colleagues, facilitate workshops and/or communities of practice, review research for evidence-based practices, and develop resources (infographics, webinars, handouts etc.) and training for educators.

 

Note: Preference will be given to candidates with course design and teaching practice experience in the Faculty of Science and Horticulture areas of programming.  

 
Trades and Technology 
Time release: 25% 
Term: 1 year 
This portfolio aims to support the further development of KPU educators in acquiring competencies related to teaching practices, techniques, and strategies specific to Trades programs. The successful candidate will be supported to develop their own knowledge related to pedagogy, technology, blended, and online learning, and to identify needed supports and resources related to Trades programming. Included in this appointment will be a requirement to provide consultation to colleagues, facilitate workshops and/or communities of practice, review research for evidence-based practices, and develop resources (infographics, webinars, handouts etc.) and training for educators. 

 

Note: Preference will be given to candidates with course design and instructional experience in the Faculty of Trades and Technology’s areas of programming.
