If you are participating in a meeting and click the Hang Up button, you will exit the audio/video portion of the meeting.  What you may not realize is that you are still a participant in that meeting and will still receive updates for any activity happening in the chat portion of the meeting until the meeting itself ends or chat activity ceases.  Leaving the chat of a meeting is a separate action and in this document we'll show you how to do it.

First off, let's be clear about the way we expect people are already using.

Clicking the Hang up button is all we need to do to exit the audio/video part of the meeting.

LEAVING THE CHAT PORTION.

Now that you are out of the meeting, you should be in the chat for the meeting you have exited.

You can now choose to exit this part of the meeting as well so as not to receive further notifications.

To do this, click on the participants icon in the top right of your Teams window.  On the pop-down menu, choose Leave.

That's it!

You will still have access to

  • the chat from the meeting up to the point where you left.
  • any files added to the meeting
  • the recording of the meeting if one is made available
