Overriding grades in Moodle are useful to provide a grade overtop of an activity that has already been graded. When an override is created, any grade that was given in the original activity will not be used.

Overriding Grades

  • In the navigation menu on the left side, select "Grades"
  • Scroll down to the table with the names of your students and assignments
  • Click on the “pencil” icon to the right of the assignment name.

  • Toggle "Edit mode" on from the top right of your browser.

  • Grades for each student on the assignment will appear. In order to override their grade, follow the steps below.
  • Check the “Override” checkbox beside the student.

  •  Now, you will be able to change the grade.
  •  Repeat the previous process for each student’s grade you want to change.
  •  Click “Save” (bottom of the page) when you are finished.

(Note: An overwritten grade will appear with a yellow highlight in your grader report.)

An override can be removed at any time by clicking the pencil icon of an assignment and erasing the override grade, then saving your changes.
